Fall Season Causing Increased Anxiety and Other Signs of Imbalance?!

Updated: Oct 2

ree

Fall is here. It officially arrived Monday September 22 this year. Fall brings about change: Change in weather from warmer to cooler temperatures, less sunlight during the day, shifts in the environment can lead to imbalances of our body outside and in (ie skin dryer, increased hair loss, increased anxiety) along with influencing imbalances in the world around us.

This is especially true for people who are vata imbalanced.

In Ayruveda, Vata is a dosha or element that is airy, dry, on the go. It brings a lot of movement and change, ie during Fall and Spring, travelling, transitions in life, anxiety. It's important for anyone during this time of year, especially if you’re vata imbalanced, to find ways to find balance, stay grounded during this environmental season transition to help maintain balance in body and mind. Staying balanced during this seasonal shift will help support your immune system, gut function, mental health and more.

As the weather gets cooler and dryer, it’s beneficial for all body types to stay grounded and balanced by favoring warmer food and drinks. Also getting plenty of rest and relaxation is also advisable since Fall is an active time in which all of nature prepares for the upcoming Winter.

General Guidelines for Fall:

  • Favor warm food and drinks (avoid ice, cold smoothies)

  • Include more grounding and healthy oils in your diet (depending on dosha/body type)

  • Include warm oil massage in your morning and evening routine

  • Cover your head on windy days

  • Avoid sleeping in cold drafts (ie fan blowing on you)

  • Avoid fasting after the Fall

  • Keep well-hydrated by sipping on warm water throughout the day (avoid Caffeine & Coffee which are dehydrating and increase anxiety)

  • Manage allergies to prevent them from worsening towards winter months and decreasing your immune defenses. Find out what you’re allergic to with allergy testing and get customized allergy drops to improve immune function.

  • Utilize body work and acupuncture along with lifestyle management to help prevent imbalance then maintain balance.
